Yom Teruah / Feast of Trumpets - A memorial of Shouting and Trumpets
Yom Teruah is also known as the Day of Shouting. This is because Teruah means shouting in Hebrew. Shouting is done by example in Scripture either vocally or by sounding the Shofar or Silver Trumpets. This is one reason Yom Teruah is also known as the Feast of Trumpets.
Yom Teruah is the first day of the seventh month, and is a Shabbat Shabbatown, basically meaning that it is a High Sabbath. One thing about High Sabbaths is that work is permitted, but occupational work is not. This enables cooking, building, fires, cleanup etc. Yom Teruah signals the start of the Fall Feast days.
Lev 23:24
Psa 47:5 Elohim shall go up with a shout, יהוה with the sound of a ram's horn.
Psa 81:3 Blow the ram's horn at the time of the New Moon, At the full moon, on our festival day.
Psa 81:4 For this is a law for Yisra'ĕl, And a right-ruling of the Elohim of Yaʽaqoḇ.
The Shofar is also used to SHOUT the Jubilee at Yom Kippur -
Lev 25:9
The Chatsotserah (silver trumpets) were commanded to be blown over offerings and at appointed times -
Num 10:10 "And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over your peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for you before your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim."
Shouting brought down the walls of Jericho -
Jos 6:1 And Yeriḥo was shut up tight because of the presence of the sons of Yisra'ĕl - none going out, and none coming in. Jos 6:2 And יהוה said to Yehoshua, "See! I have given Yeriḥo and its sovereign, mighty brave men, into your hand. Jos 6:3 "And you shall go around the city, all the men of battle going around the
city once. Do this for six days. Jos 6:4 "And let seven priests bear seven rams' horns before the ark, and on the seventh day go around the city seven times while the priests blow the horns. Jos 6:5 "And it shall be, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the horn, that all the people shout with a great shout. And the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him." Jos 6:6 And Yehoshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven rams' horns before the ark of יהוה." Jos 6:7 And he said to the people, "Pass over, and go around the city, and let him who is armed pass over before the ark of יהוה." Jos 6:8 And it came to be, when Yehoshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven rams' horns before יהוה passed over and blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of יהוה went after them. Jos 6:9 And the armed men went before the priests who blew the horns, and the rear guard came after the ark, going on and blowing the horns. Jos 6:10 But Yehoshua had commanded the people, saying, "Do not shout or cause your voice to be heard, nor let any word come out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, 'Shout!' Then you shall shout." Jos 6:11 And the ark of יהוה went around the city, going around once. And they came into the camp and stayed in the camp. Jos 6:12 And Yehoshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of יהוה. Jos 6:13 And seven priests bearing seven rams' horns before the ark of יהוה were walking, going on, and they blew the horns, and the armed men went before them. But the rear guard came after the ark of יהוה, going on, and blowing the horns. Jos 6:14 And the second day they went around the city once and returned to the camp. Thus they did six days. Jos 6:15 And it came to be on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and went around the city seven times in this way. Only on that day they went around the city seven times. Jos 6:16 And it came to be at the seventh time, when the priests blew the horns, that Yehoshua said to the people, "Shout, for יהוה has given you the city!
Psa 89:15 Blessed are the people Who know the festal trumpet-call! They walk, O יהוה, in the light of Your face.
Psa 98:4 Raise a shout to יהוה, all the earth; Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
Psa 98:5 Sing to יהוה with the lyre, With the lyre and the voice of a song,
Psa 98:6 With trumpets and the sound of a horn; Raise a shout before יהוה, the Sovereign.
